With a few simple configurations, we'll turn Google Analytics into a powerful financial command center. We've tightly integrated to Google Analytics to provide you with loads of data about what's happening in your store with just a few clicks. Let's take a look at the data we can send to your Google Analytics account:
- Traffic data, including referrals, user demographics, exit pages, and more.
- Transaction data such as sales and refunds, including product line items, tax and discounts.
- Events such as successful cart conversions, successful and failed payments and refunds, subscription trials, conversions, cancellations, failures and more.
Setting up Google Analytics
If you don’t already have a Google Analytics account, set one up here. While they have some paid plans, fortunately they offer a free tier that should be sufficient for most users.
After you have completed creating your Google Analytics account, make note of the Tracking ID. Google will provide you with code snippets, samples and technical instructions. We've already done that work for you; just copy your Tracking ID and keep it handy for easy reference in a minute.
Next, from the upper menu, go to Admin. Under the "View" column, navigate to "Ecommerce Settings".
Then, enable the "Ecommerce" setting by turning it on, click "Next Step", then click Save.
Setting up a Test Property
Before we get started, you should consider if you intend to use the Comecero test environment. The test environment is a great way to experiment with Comecero's features and settings without disrupting your actual customers. You can switch between your live and test accounts with a simple toggle in the upper right of the Comecero admin control panel.
It would be a bad idea to use a single Google Analytics Tracking ID for both test and live environments. Your reports will be loaded with data from both environments and you won't have any way to get accurate financial data.
The best way to handle this is to set up a second Google Analytics property for your test transactions. Just sign in to your Google Analytics account, click Admin and look for the Property column. Click the drop down menu at the top, and select the "Create new property" option.
Use a name that will clearly indicate it's for test data, such as "Comecero Test Data". Save the property and make note of the new Tracking ID and remember to enable "Ecommerce Settings" as you did for the previous property.
Setting Up Comecero
Now that we have our Google Analytics Tracking IDs, we're ready to configure Comecero. Sign in to your account, and navigate to Settings> Analytics. Fill in the Tracking ID provided by Google, enable "Send Events and Conversions" and "Send Transactions", then hit Save.
If you set up a second property for testing, toggle to test mode from the upper right corner of the page and repeat the steps above, this time using your test Google Analytics Tracking ID.
That's it! Your account is set up and will take care of the rest. You can now sit back and watch your account fill up with useful data.
Note that Google Analtyics is generally fast at loading data, but usually there is a slight delay before data starts flowing into your account. If you don't see any data, wait an hour or so and check again.
